UT Community Care Clinic Receives Grant Thanks to Student Jon Priebe

2012 Mar 9

The UT Community Care Clinic received a $1,000 grant from the Ohio Association of Physician Assistants, which awards the grant each year to a cause nominated by an association member.

Jon Priebe, a native of Ann Arbor, Mich. and a graduate student in the UT Physician Assistant Program, nominated the clinic for the grant.

"The clinic provides care for several acute and chronic conditions. We also do flu shots and physicals for people who might not get them otherwise," Priebe said.

The UT Community Care Clinic has two sites, one in downtown Toledo and another in Perrysburg, and operates on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. The clinic provides health care for uninsured, underinsured and underserved populations in the area.

The clinic is staffed mainly by volunteer physicians and students, including a physician assistant liaison such as Priebe.

"My goal was to bring attention to the care clinic," Priebe said. "Many people don't know about it, and it's the students who make it what it is. The community makes the clinic a great place."

The grant will be used to purchase medication as well as diabetic and other testing supplies, which Priebe said comprises most costs associated with the clinic.
